The Cloud Factory Design Collective (CFDC) is comprised of
an inventive group of up-and-coming designers burning with vision,
talent, and creative energy. With roots in the Bay Area underground
dance culture, the CFDC molds a post-rave fashion experience, at once
heady and whimsical, yet rooted in a disciplined expression of
hard-earned street-learned skills. Our designers are a diverse group,
ranging from recent graduates of local art schools (SF Art Institute, SF
Fashion Institute, CCAC) to multi-talented graphic designers and
technology geeks. Some have embarked on their careers in the fashion
community: one of our members has been a milliner with the SF Opera,
another served as a costume designer for the hit movie "Groove," while a
UCSB Theater Arts graduate worked as a stylist for the Santa Barbara
Opera.
The collective creates, arranges, produces, and performs its work, with
one major annual spring show, held over the last three years. With a
belief that real style is art, and art is life -- a CFDC performance is
a visual, aural, and sensory treat that marries fashion to its siblings
theater, dance, and music. The Cloud Factory Design Collective comes
from and puts fashion in the place where it thrives in the hands of
the young, the fun, the real, the good, and the true.
