Instructions on how to install mopar torsion bar dust boot

We all have heard the horror stories regarding how hard it is to get the small diameter dust boot seal over the torsion bar on Mopar vehicles. We have found this way to be very easy and effective in making this job quick and easy.

Things you will need are: 1 1/16" socket, large vise, and your dust boot.. The dust boots used in this example were Energy Suspesion, p/n 5.13101G. If using other style boots, I'm guessing they will all follow these same instructions.

First you should grease up the boot and place the boot on the closed end of the socket.

Then you will need to put the socket and the boot in a large enough vise so that you can press the two of them together. You might need to add a peice of flat steel (as we have done in the next picture) to get a flat surface.

Now you will need to carefully press the boot on to the socket, if the boot starts to bind, back the vise up and get a better alignment. If everything is lined up you should be able get the boot onto the socket with ease.

Now once you have successfully done this, make sure to pull the boot onto the socket so it doesn't come back off.

Now it's time to put the boot onto the torsion bar!!

When you do this, we have found that you need to be quick. Once you have pulled the boot onto the bar slightly, just quckly pull the boot over from the socket on to the torison bar. If it slips off, no worries, just go back to your vise and start over. When we have been quick in pushing the boot from the socket to the bar, it has worked every time.

That's it! Now just follow the rest of the usual instal instructions in your service manual.
